AI-Generated Artwork: What You Need to Know Before Your Next Project

Artificial intelligence has made it easier than ever to generate visual content. In a matter of seconds, you can have an image that looks polished, creative, and ready to use. We get it — it’s a powerful tool, and our clients are using it more and more. But before that image makes its way onto a banner, a vehicle, a shirt, or a business card, there is an important conversation we need to have.

It Looks Good on Screen. Production Is a Different Story.

AI-generated images are built to look great on a monitor. Print and large-format production have a completely different set of requirements. What appears sharp and vibrant on your phone or laptop can reveal real problems the moment we prepare it for output — and those problems are not always visible until we are already deep into the process.

Here is the honest reality: when a client submits AI artwork, we evaluate it on a project-by-project basis. There is no universal answer. Depending on the file and the application, the artwork may work exactly as submitted, may require our design team to rebuild or enhance it before it is production-ready, or in some cases, may simply not be usable at all. The type of product, the output size, and the production method all play a role in that determination.

What This Means for Your Project

If you are planning to use AI-generated artwork, the best thing you can do is bring it to us early. We will assess the file honestly and let you know where things stand. If design work is needed to get it to production quality, we will tell you upfront and reflect that in your project cost. We would always rather have that conversation at the start than surprise you with it later.

We also want to be straightforward about brand consistency. AI generates something different every time you run it. Colors shift, styles drift, details change. If you are building marketing materials across multiple products — signs, apparel, print, wrap — those pieces need to match. AI cannot guarantee that. A professionally designed asset can.

Our Goal Is Always the Same

Whether your artwork comes from an AI tool, a designer on your team, or our art department here, we are going to make sure what leaves our shop represents your brand well. That is not just a policy — it is how we operate. Reach out before your project kicks off and let us help you figure out the best path forward.
